O.M.G.
Thirteen Films I'm totally stoked about seeing.
Believe it or not, I actually Don't live under a rock. Sure, I'd heard of Entourage before, but am only just now getting around to seeing it. I don't watch much/if any TV... and most of what I do watch I catch on DVD. Now this is a series I hadn't seriously given much thought. I was only familiar with two of the actors - the first being Jeremy Piven, who on his own would have been compelling enough BUT the other was Kevin Dillion. Which I'm sad to say, is the reason I avoided this series for so terribly long... honestly, I just didn't think I could take Dillion for any extended period without wanting to break out the hand drill and lobotomize myself.
Then, last weekend a friend suggested it. I told him of my misgivings and he blatantly informed me that I was completely off the mark on this one. So... always being one up to a challenge - off I went to reorder my Netflix Queue.
Wow... What a Completely pleasant surprise! And shocker to end all shockers - Kevin Dillion is absolutely Brilliant! I couldn't believe it, he's so damn good that it makes me want take back all the horrendous things I said about him 20 years ago. He's really come a very long way indeed. He's a pure joy to watch here, and I'm happy to stand corrected.
It's also important to note that realistically, there simply wouldn't be a show without Jeremy Piven's masterful portrayal of Ari Gold. Who enters every scene as though he's just been shot out of a cannon. He's amazing and magically caustic.
In my humble opinion - Dillon's Drama and Piven's Ari completely steal the show and shine beyond any expectations I may have had. The writing is sharp and witty, off-color and hysterical. Think Sex and the City for Men. Noting, that in the same vein as SATC, it's not the main story but the sub-plots that make the show work and carry you along. It's an absolute must see with really terrific writing focusing on characters that make you laugh out loud and who often cry out to be bitch slapped. Always a stellar combination in my book and goes a long way to prove that television written for cable (Entourage is on HBO) is so much more enjoyable for me.

Of course all I wanna know is:
how they came up with the idea...
how long they worked on it
and how many takes it took when all was said and done.
It's Awesome and just a little something fun to shuck and jive to...
I think it's accurate to say, that about the only way I ever consume marshmallows is A) in a bowl of Lucky Charms cereal and B) when they're melting away in glorious cup of Cocoa. So between my cold cereal addiction and my never ending hankerin' for hot chocolate it's pretty safe to say that I ingest my fair share of marshmallowie goodness. However, since I simply Don't Do the Camping Thing, I probably haven't enjoyed a heavenly concocted S'more since I was about er- 9 or 10. But as you might have guessed... that's all about to change.
This delightful twist on the classic S'more is sure to have me firing up the chimnea this weekend and sharpening a few roasting sticks in preparation. Imagine: ooey-gooey-sweet slightly (or severely, depending on your tastes) charred marshmallow tempered by bittersweet chocolate cookies and enveloped with salty roasted peanuts.
I Know!
After that orgasmic description it'll be difficult not to salivate on your keyboard. But Please remember that water and electricity don't go together as swimmingly as chocolate and peanut butter. And it would be a Damn shame if you electrocuted yourself before having a chance to sample a few of these bad boys.
Step 1) Spread 1 tablespoon peanut butter onto a thin, crisp chocolate wafer (such as Nabisco Famous Chocolate Wafers).
Step 2) Slide 1 skewer-toasted marshmallow onto peanut butter.
Step 3) Top with a second wafer and squish down gently.
Step 4) Devour... being careful not to lose a finger.
Step 5) Faint dead away.
I find stuff like this so amazingly inspirational.
Creativity on the fly.
No planning. No thinking. No Fear!
It's awesome.

Krink markers are Seriously Cool.
If your weather is anything like mine is (here in Pennsylvania) you're often faced with lots of occasions when playing outside just isn't feasible. Think rain, rain, rain. So in an effort to ensure that our indoor days stay lively I'm always on the look out for different activities and projects to effectively pass the time and hold boredom at bay. I really like things that are both fun and engaging that are sure to keep me and my little 3 year old Henmeister busy, busy, busy.
This Totally Stellar idea from Filth Wizardry is just the ticket!! A Shower Curtain Activity Play Mat -Wow! What a truly Fabulous idea! I adore how easily you can customize it for your child's interests of the moment. I know that one week my H-Man loves Airplanes and the next week he's all about the Animals. At only a Buck a pop - it's easy to keep it current.
Cool ideas I'm going to try:
Space - Rockets, Stars, Planets, and Aliens
Zoo - Animals Galore
Alphabet and Numbers
Creepy Crawly - Bugs, Snakes and Reptiles
The possibilities are endless! So be sure to head on over to Filth Wizardry for all the details on what you'll need to get started on your very own...
I've made several of these recycled trouser skirts in the past... they're really simple to do and a great way to use up some fabric scraps. I've done them out of denim and corduroys - both with fantastic results. Of course in the past I've pretty much just sort of winged the construction and sewed them together on the fly... so no two skirts have ever turned out the same. Which sometimes is good and sometimes can be quite frustrating... But Look! Applehead has created a Super Swell tutorial to inspire you! Feel free to either follow it to the letter or be brave and just use it as a jumping off point to get you started.
I encourage you to be creative - the tutorial shows a finished skirt with 2 fabric rows - but I've made them with as many as 7 fabric rows and have also varied the width of each row. Which is Seriously Too Cute. Another fun idea is to throw in a few rows of patchwork - I really loved them in mine :)
Just be aware of one thing... They're super addictive to make!
I love to use thrift store trouser finds for these beauties.
Have Fun and Happy Sewing.

This film is a really terrific example of what happens when a major studio is presented with a movie that cannot be easily referenced, categorized, packaged and sold. 20th Century Fox evidently didn’t have a clue as to what to do with this obscure celluloid. I remember seeing the theatrical trailer and completely blowing it off. At the time I was like: "Uh, No. Pass". Mistakenly it was marketed as a pseudo outdoor survival adventure livened up with a cannibal attack. Uh Yeah, Not Exactly.
What a Shame. Truly. As a result of the mess the studio made "distributing" this title I'm quite sure that most folks - much like myself - walked right past this one. Major Mistake! This movie was such a brilliant surprise. I was completely taken off guard when I saw it - even now, I find it to be incredibly unsettling. We're talking off the charts Creepy. Intense, make your skill crawl kind of creepy. Some might categorize it as Horror - but IMHO it's more suspense with a bit of gore. The most amazing thing is how wonderfully simple this film is - no special effects, no CGI... just sensational story telling. Superb acting by everyone on board: especially Robert Carlyle who will totally knock your wig askew with his portrayal - WOW. Of course Pearce is Spot On - as usual. There's also some wonderfully evocative outdoor photography by Anthony B. Richmond. Quirky and unforgettable music by Michael Nyman and Damon Albarn. Beautiful direction by Antonia Bird.
Honestly - Run, Don't walk to find this title and be sure to watch it with the lights out.

It just so happens that when you add water to these little plastic balls -
the coating produces effects similar to GHB -- the date rape drug.
Pleasant. And let's face it, always handy for a first date ice breaker.
